Notes from Mrs. Kennedy 4/21

Here is a 'heads up' that our Modern Japan test will be on Thursday. It is an open book test so they will need to bring their notes in to earn ABCs. Please help your child prepare at home and considering taking on the Above and Beyond option.
Next Tuesday, April 29, ACS welcomes grandparents into the classroom. Second grade is opening their doors 10:45 - 11:15 and everyone is welcome to eat lunch in the cafeteria! Please call the school to let them know if an adult will be buying a lunch.
Thursday is Dress of Choice (free) and Friday is a Professional Development day so the kids are off.
Thanks.

Notes from Mrs. Kennedy 4/11

A quick reminder that there is no school on Monday. Thanks for signing up for a testing day slot. I anticipate it will take your child roughly 30 minutes from the time s/he arrives.
Thank you to Mrs. Duffy, Caitlin's mom for taking us on a tour of her native Taiwan. Thank you to Mrs. Borges, Nik's mom for our tour of her native Ukraine. I really appreciate all the time and energy our tour guides have put in to share our world. The kids learn so much!
Enjoy the weekend.

Notes from Mrs. Kennedy 3/21

The Living History Wax Museum was such a success! Thanks for all the behind the scenes support.
I hope you all have a relaxing break - but don't forget to send in 5 printed pictures the Monday we get back. The pictures can be of anything, big or small, to document the break. This will inspire our next writing project.
Don't forget have supplies so your child will spend some time each day reading.  Below is a link to the public library. Notice there are ebooks  and audio downloads to continue with Listen to Reading. Checkout the Tumblebooks link toward the bottom of the page. All of the items are FREE to download. Reserve playaways, audio cds  and BOOKS :)
Thanks again for a great morning.

Notes from Mrs. Kennedy 3/6

Did you hear we traveled to India with Cole's great aunt this week? What an educational (and tasty!) tour.

Thanks in advance for your support as your child researches a famous historical person. Keep in mind I want the child to do the writing but s/he will probably need help doing the research. They don't need tons of facts, just good basic information. The completed paper MUST be turned in no later than Monday!

ACS has changed the Spring conference schedule to allow much more flexibility. Many of you I talk to every day and we do not need to schedule a formal meeting. If I want to meet with you after Spring Break I'll be in touch with a separate email. If you want to meet with me just let me know and we'll get it on the calendar.

I'm looking for  PopRocks, the popping candy. You know I do my best to instill good eating habits with the cherubs, but I have a fun lesson planned assuming I can get a package of PopRocks for each kiddo. Let me know if you can help out!

Notes from Mrs. Kennedy 2/27

Friday we do not have school so the Friday Folders will come home tomorrow.

Please look for your cherub's letter from Africa. If there is not one in your cutie's VIP folder this is because they needed to finish working on a different writing project. I have extra papers here if they'd like to write their letter at home.

We are looking forward to our next stop, Asia. Several of you have volunteered to be tour guides and I SO appreciate it. Please look at your calendar and let me know a few days in April that would fit in your schedule so we can put it on the calendar. The best tours last about 20 mins and focus on just a few main things about the culture or geography. If you are unsure what to share ask your child what they think is cool. If they think something is cool, so will the rest of the class. Let me know how I can help!  We usually have tours from 2:50ish to 3:25.
In a separate email you'll get a note from Mr. Ross our music teacher and Ms. Nunn our art teacher.

Enjoy the weekend

Notes from Mrs. Kennedy 2/14

Thanks you to so many of you!
Thank you to all of you who sent in Kleenex and dry erase markers and pencils!
Thank you to Nicole Bennington for photographing each of our second grade immigrants and printing the photo you will get in the Friday Folder
Thank you to Barry Borges who took us on a tour of Mali this week.
Thank you to Lori Parfitt for putting together the Valentine celebration and all of you who sent in food and supplies.
Thank you for the very generous gift card to the Outlets for my birthday.
Wow! I am one lucky teacher to have all your support!
A few things about next week.
1. If you have any cardboard egg cartons (not the white plastic foam kind) could you send them in? I need a handful for a game we're making on Friday.
2. On Thursday we will have a Civil Rights "open book" test. Your child's Civil Rights Catalog and the info sheet is in their binder. Please keep the Catalog in a safe place and send it in on Thursday for the test.
3. You are welcome to join us at 2:50 on Thursday for a tour of Botswana on Thursday. I had a chance to visit there this summer and look forward to sharing the animals and the school I visited.
No school Monday, Yee-ha!

Mad Libs

Today we worked on grammar/parts of speech using an online Mad Libs. The kids loved it and asked that I send the link home.
http://www.itsamadlibsworld.com/
Please do a few with your child. They may need support on what sort of word to put in. Our focus has been noun, verb and adjective and we discussed what past tense and plural means - but sometimes others come up, like adverb or pronoun and we haven't covered those yet.
Anyway, let these take you back to your youth and have some family fun.
